Erasmus+ in Sweden – An Unforgettable Educational Adventure
From February 15 to 24, 2025, students from the European College had the opportunity to participate in a Polish-Swedish youth exchange as part of the Erasmus+ program, hosted at Hjalmar Strömerskolan in Strömsund, Sweden. This trip provided an excellent opportunity to learn about the Swedish education system, as well as to gain new experiences that were not only educational but also truly adventurous. Participation in this international exchange allowed students to develop intercultural competencies, forge international friendships, and immerse themselves in Swedish culture and traditions.
Education and International Collaboration – New Experiences in a Swedish School
During their stay, students took part in lessons and workshops that introduced them to the Swedish education system. They learned about teaching methods in Swedish schools and had the chance to collaborate with peers on various projects. One of the most interesting aspects of the exchange was a workshop on the Sustainable Development Goals, which inspired reflections on the responsibility for our planet’s future.
Integration and Daily Life – Swedish Culture and Traditions
The Erasmus+ youth exchange also provided an opportunity for deeper international integration. The European College students had the chance to live with Swedish host families, which allowed them to better understand daily life in Sweden and become acquainted with the country’s traditions and culture. For many participants, the time spent with host families was the most valuable part of the trip, helping to overcome language barriers, develop communication skills, and establish lasting friendships.
Outdoor Adventure – Activities and Sports in the Heart of Nature
Sweden impressed the students with its picturesque landscapes and opportunities for outdoor activities. As part of the exchange program, students tried cross-country skiing, which was not only great fun but also a chance to improve their physical fitness. A major highlight was participating in the legendary Amundsen Race, a dog sled race held in the Swedish region. In addition, students explored Viking history by visiting Jamtli in Östersund, where they saw original artifacts and learned about this fascinating culture.
Encounter with the Sami Culture – Traditions and History Around the Fire
The exchange in Sweden was not limited to learning and sports. One of the most memorable moments of the trip was meeting with the Sami people, who live in northern Sweden. The students had the opportunity to learn about the traditions of the Sami, as well as participate in a gathering around the fire in a traditional tent. This unique experience showcased the cultural richness of the region and the significance of traditions in modern communities.
Education Through Experience – Personal and Intercultural Development
The Erasmus+ program is a great opportunity to develop language, social, and intercultural competencies. Participation in the exchange in Sweden allowed the students from the European College not only to acquire knowledge but also to experience personal growth and gain a deeper understanding of other cultures. The international exchange is also a chance to cultivate prosocial attitudes and responsibility for the future of our planet. Upon returning from the exchange, students were full of inspiration and ready for the next international challenges that would undoubtedly enrich their lives.
